PERMABOND 2010
PERMABOND 2010
Permabond Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd

Permabond 2010 is a thixotropic cyanoacrylate adhesive in dispensable semi-gel form — it stays in place, only flows under pressure and fills the largest gaps in the Permabond cyanoacrylate range.

With a maximum gap filling of 0.5 mm and thixotropic consistency, Permabond 2010 is the right choice for vertical or overhead bonding surfaces, porous materials such as wood or ceramics, and all applications where a liquid cyanoacrylate would simply run off.

A rare feature in the CA field: Permabond 2010 has WRAS drinking water approval — it may be used in applications involving contact with drinking water.

PERMIT

WRAS Drinking Water Approval (cold water use only) — British drinking water approval for direct contact with cold drinking water. Suitable for sanitary, food-grade, and water installation components.

What makes Permabond 2010 stand out

Thixotropic — remains at the place of application
Semi-gel consistency: viscous at rest, only flows under pressure. No dripping or running, even on vertical surfaces.
Largest gap filler in the range
Up to 0.5 mm — forgives rough tolerances or uneven surfaces where standard CAs would fail.
WRAS Drinking Water Approval
Approved for contact with drinking water — a rare certification in the cyanoacrylate sector.
Universal substrates
Metals, plastics, elastomers, ceramics, wood — the thixotropic formula is suitable for a wide variety of materials.
Substrate failure in ABS, PVC, PC
The adhesive bond withstands the material itself — in the break test, the component tears, not the seam.
Ready for immediate use
Single-component, no mixing, no activator required — hand strength on steel in 10–15 seconds.

What is Permabond 2010 used for?

Vertical and overhead bonding
Thixotropic consistency remains at the application site, even on vertical walls, ceilings or cavities.
Drinking water applications (WRAS)
Sanitary installations, food contact components, water pipe components with approved adhesive.
Porous substrates
Wood, ceramics, loose materials — the high viscosity prevents seepage into the surface.
Large gaps and uneven surfaces
A 0.5 mm gap filling allows for tolerances where standard CAs fail — ideal for repairs.
Universal adhesive
Metals, plastics, elastomers, ceramics, wood — flexible all-rounder with substrate failure on ABS/PVC/PC.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Lightly sand aluminum, copper, and their alloys.
2
Dispensing adhesive
Squeeze Permabond 2010 sparingly from the tube onto an adhesive surface. Its thixotropic consistency ensures it stays put – ideal for vertical or overhead surfaces.
3
assembling components
Quickly and correctly align the parts. Apply enough pressure so that the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4
Secure until firmly in place
Do not disturb until handling strength is reached (10–15 s on steel, Buna-N and phenol). Final strength after 24 hours.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent, nitromethane or acetone.

Important instructions

Not suitable for
Avoid contact with strong oxidizing agents or polar solvents. Pretreatment with Permabond POP primer is mandatory for PP, PE, PTFE, and silicone.
storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow the tube to warm to room temperature before opening – this prevents condensation and protects the shelf life.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 2010

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 2010 is a thixotropic cyanoacrylate adhesive in a dispensable semi-gel form, ideal for vertical and overhead bonding surfaces, porous substrates (wood, ceramics), and applications with large gaps up to 0.5 mm. It also has WRAS drinking water approval and is suitable for applications involving contact with drinking water (plumbing, water installations, food contact components).

Thixotropic means: very viscous at rest (10,000–20,000 mPa·s at low shear rates), less viscous under pressure (2,000–2,500 mPa·s). In practical terms, this means that Permabond 2010 stays put at the application point and doesn't run—even on vertical walls or overhead. When the components are pressed together, the material flows into the gap and forms a thin film. This property makes 2010 the first choice for vertical and overhead bonding applications.

WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) is a UK certification body that tests materials and products for contact with drinking water. WRAS approval confirms that the adhesive can be used in drinking water applications without imparting any taste, odor, or harmful substances to the water. Permabond 2010 is therefore suitable for sanitary, food contact, and water installation components.

Permabond 2010 is thixotropic (semi-gel) — viscous at rest, thinner under pressure. Permabond 2011 Gel has a true gel consistency — remains pasty even under pressure and is practically non-runny. 2010 is suitable for bonding applications where the gap needs to fill; 2011 Gel is the choice when the adhesive must stay exactly where it is applied (e.g., drip-free spot bonding).

Permabond 2010 bonds metals (steel 19–23 N/mm², aluminum, zinc), plastics (ABS, PVC, PC with substrate failure), phenolic resin (14 N/mm²), elastomers (Buna-N), ceramics, and wood. Its high viscosity is particularly advantageous for porous substrates—the adhesive does not seep out. Pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required for PP, PE, PTFE, and silicone.

Permabond 2010 should be stored unopened refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow to warm to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation. Opened tubes remain functional for several months if stored correctly. We recommend a test bond to check reactivity before important production applications.

For vertical applications, porous substrates (wood, ceramics), large gaps (0.5 mm), and contact with drinking water, Permabond 2010 the right choice. For micro-gaps and wicking, use Permabond 101.For general-purpose bonding with larger gaps, use Permabond 102.For demanding rubber bonding applications, use Permabond 105.For maximum strength on metals, use Permabond 910.For bonds subject to vibration or impact, use Permabond 2050.
