Permabond · Permabond Engineering Adhesives Ltd · SKU 49-922.FL.G050

Permabond 922 is the high-viscosity allyl cyanoacrylate paste of the 919/920/922 series — paste consistency with 0.4 mm gap filling, designed for vertical high-temperature bonding and coarse tolerances, with post-cure load-bearing capacity up to 250 °C.

With a viscosity of 1,200 to 2,000 mPa·s, 922 is a true adhesive paste—it doesn't run, stays precisely where it's applied, and fills gaps up to 0.4 mm. This gap width is eight times greater than that of the ultra-low viscosity 919, making 922 the first choice for large tolerances or vertical high-temperature bonding applications.

Like 919 and 920, 922 utilizes a two-stage post-cure process (4 h RT + 2 h 150 °C) for high-temperature performance up to 250 °C. The MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 3 approval is the high-viscosity classification of the MIL-Spec. Initial handling strength on steel is achieved in under 20 seconds, and on phenolic resin in approximately 45 seconds.

AUTHORIZATION & SPECIAL PROPERTIES

MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 3 — the high-viscosity classification of the MIL-Spec. With two-stage post-cure curing (4 h RT + 2 h at 150 °C), it is permanently resistant up to 250 °C, combined with 0.4 mm gap filling — the unique paste variant of the allyl cyanoacrylate series.

What distinguishes Permabond 922

0.4 mm gap filling
Eight times more than 919 — fills rough tolerances without pre-machining.
High-viscosity paste
1,200–2,000 mPa·s — does not leak, stationary in vertical and overhead bonding applications.
Post-cure at 250 °C
Two-stage curing (4 h RT + 2 h 150 °C) — permanently load-bearing up to 250 °C.
MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 3
The high-viscosity classification of the most important cyanoacrylate specification.
Allyl cyanoacrylate chemistry
The high-tech Allyl variant with heat reserve for full post-cure performance.
Steel strength at the highest level
19–23 N/mm² shear strength on blasted steel.

What is Permabond 922 used for?

Vertical high-temperature bonding
Paste consistency does not run — safe application to lateral or upright adhesive surfaces subject to continuous thermal stress.
Coarse tolerances / gap filling up to 0.4 mm
When component pairings do not have a standard CA-typical gap dimension and there is a heat requirement at the same time.
Repair and maintenance operations in hot environments
Machine, motor and industrial furnace components — pinpoint paste application.
Aviation and defense technology
MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 3 approved — for demanding industry applications.
Component fixing during overhead assembly
The paste consistency allows for selective application — even in non-horizontal positions.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Lightly sand aluminum, copper, and their alloys to remove the oxide layer.
2
Use adhesive sparingly
Apply Permabond 922 only drop by drop to an adhesive surface — the thin layer is crucial for rapid curing.
3
assembling components
Quickly and correctly align the parts. Apply enough pressure so that the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4
Secure until firmly in place
Do not disturb or realign until handling strength is reached (typically a few seconds to one minute, depending on the substrate). Final strength is reached after 24 hours.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent 2, nitromethane or acetone.
6
Post-cure for high-temperature performance
After bonding, fix for 4 hours at room temperature, then cure for 2 hours at 150 °C — after which the bond can withstand temperatures up to 250 °C.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
For full high-temperature performance, post-cure (4 h room temperature + 2 h at 150 °C) is mandatory. Without post-cure, 922 behaves like a standard cyanoacrylate. Permabond CSA activator is recommended for porous or difficult surfaces. Permabond POP primer is mandatory before bonding PP, PE, PTFE, or silicone.
storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening – this prevents condensation and protects the shelf life.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 922

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 922 is an allyl cyanoacrylate cyanoacrylate adhesive with a viscosity of 1,200–2,000 mPa·s (paste) and a maximum gap filling of 0.4 mm. Allyl cyanoacrylate paste — MIL Class 3, 0.4 mm gap filling, post-curable up to 250 °C.

Permabond 922 reliably bonds steel (19–23 N/mm²), as well as Buna-N rubber and similar elastomers. For polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required.

Permabond 922 is approved according to MIL-A-46050C Type V Class 3 (existing designs) — qualified for demanding industrial applications.

Permabond 922 reaches handling strength on steel in <20 s. Other typical curing times: <15 s (NBR), <45 s (Buna N), <45 s (phenol). The final strength of 19–23 N/mm² (steel) is reached after 24 hours. Temperature, humidity, and substrate affect the curing rate.

Permabond 922 offers a viscosity of 1,200–2,000 mPa·s (paste), 0.4 mm gap filling, and 19–23 N/mm² shear strength on steel. Permabond 919 has a viscosity of 2–6 mPa·s, 0.05 mm gap filling, and 20–22 N/mm² on steel (ultra-low viscosity, MIL Class 1, Wicking). Both utilize an allyl cyanoacrylate base (or a related cyanoacrylate variant).

Permabond 922 should be stored unopened at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening—this prevents condensation inside, which would reduce its shelf life. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly, although the curing rate may decrease over time. We recommend a test bond to check reactivity before critical production applications.

From the Permabond cyanoacrylate range, select according to viscosity and special properties: Permabond 922 (1,200–2,000 mPa·s (paste), 0.4 mm gap width, gap filling); Permabond 919 (2–6 mPa·s, 0.05 mm, ultra-low viscosity, MIL Class 1, wicking); Permabond 920 (80 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, medium viscosity, MIL Class 2 + Bio); Permabond 737MM (2,000–4,000 mPa·s, 0.5 mm, black paste, no post-cure). For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is always required.
