Permabond A1046 is a high-strength shaft-hub adhesive with fast curing — ideal for bonding different metals, with gap filling up to 0.25 mm and highest torques.

With extended gap filling up to 0.25 mm, the A1046 covers larger tolerances than the standard retainer A1042. Its rapid curing reduces line cycle time during shaft-hub assembly.

With a breakaway torque of 30 N·m and a holding torque of 50 N·m, A1046 delivers high strength — suitable for torque-transmitting connections such as gears, pulleys, or drive elements. The formulation is particularly optimized for different metal pairings.

SPECIAL FEATURE

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished surfaces.
2
Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond A1046 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the tip to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).
3
assembling components
Insert the screws and tighten them to the required torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.
4
Allow to harden
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and in contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.
5
Accelerate curing (optional)
Permabond A905 activator can be used on inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures — applied to one adhesive surface, allowed to evaporate, then adhesive applied to the other side.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
Metal-to-metal contact is required for curing. For inactive surfaces (zinc, stainless steel), use A905 activator. Disassembly typically requires heating.
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, do not pour the adhesive back into the bottle.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond A1046

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond A1046 is a medium-viscosity, single-component (anaerobic) acrylic adhesive capable of filling gaps up to 0.25 mm. This high-strength shaft-hub adhesive cures quickly and is ideal for various metals. Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with the metal, making them perfect for tight-tolerance metallic bonds.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond A1046 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Curing starts at the metal surface and progresses into the bond gap. The product cures quickly on steel and copper; on stainless steel and zinc, the Permabond A905 activator may be beneficial.

Difficult to remove — Permabond A1046 is high-strength (30 N·m breakaway torque). Disassembly typically requires heating the bond to 200 °C or more. Designed for permanent bonding.

Permabond A1046 is approved according to DVGW Gas Approval and WRAS Drinking Water Approval . These certifications qualify the product for the respective specified applications — such as direct contact with drinking water in the case of WRAS and KTW approvals.

Permabond A1046 typically reaches handling strength after 15 minutes and functional strength after 1 hour at 23 °C on M10 steel. Final strength is reached after 24 hours. On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc) or at low temperatures, the curing time is extended—Permabond A905 activator accelerates the process.

Permabond A1046 is a high-strength shaft-hub adhesive, DVGW Gas + WRAS Drinking Water (medium viscosity, 0.25 mm gap filling, 30 N·m breakaway torque). Permabond HM162 is a high-strength shaft-hub adhesive (1,000 mPa·s, 0.2 mm, 32 N·m breakaway torque) — low viscosity, highest strength (30 MPa). Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond A1046 (high-strength shaft-hub adhesive, DVGW Gas + WRAS Drinking Water); Permabond HM162 (high-strength shaft-hub); Permabond A1062 (wicking + UV); Permabond A118 (universal high-strength). For inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum), Permabond A905 activator be used to accelerate curing.
