Permabond ET500 is a fast-curing 2K epoxy in a 1:1 mixing ratio — the choice when repair and service conditions require short pot lives and quick recommissioning.

With a pot life of only 3–4 minutes, ET500 is one of the fastest 2K epoxies in the Permabond range — the adhesive must be applied and joined quickly, but then cures rapidly to handling strength.

The simple 1:1 volume ratio allows for uncomplicated processing with a dual cartridge and mixing nozzle — no precise weighing required. Bonds metals, ceramics, wood, and many plastics.

APPLICATION PROFILE

The fastest 2-component epoxy in the Permabond range — pot life 3–4 minutes, combined with a 1:1 mixing ratio and immediate usability. Ideal for rapid service and repair bonding where long curing times are unacceptable.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For dual cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle and press evenly (1:1 volume mixing ratio). For larger containers: Weigh out the resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface within the pot life (3–4 minutes @ 23 °C). Join the components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive is distributed over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components in place during curing
Use a clamping device or vise to prevent the components from moving during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength to be determined according to the TDS (Technical Data Sheet).
5
Full curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically reached after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If required, optional post-curing at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Important instructions

Important instructions
Short pot life (3–4 min) — apply the adhesive immediately after mixing. Hold components in position until cured. Test compatibility with thermoplastic substrates.
storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Keep 2K epoxy components in closed packaging — protect the hardener especially from moisture.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond ET500

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Fast-setting epoxy 1:1 — shortest pot life, rapid curing for quick repairs. This 2-component epoxy is mixed in a 1:1 volume ratio and offers a pot life of 3–4 minutes @ 23 °C.

Mix both components in a 1:1 ratio by volume — use the mixing nozzle for dual cartridges, weigh precisely for larger containers. Apply within the pot life (3–4 minutes @ 23 °C) and join components. Full curing typically occurs after 24 hours at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET500 is typically 3–4 minutes at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures lengthen the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g may gel more quickly due to an exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET500 bonds reliably to: Steel: approx. 10 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, test compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET500 does not have specific industry-specific approvals such as EU 10/2011 (food), UL94 (fire protection), or Boeing/Airbus (aerospace). For general industrial applications, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond ET500 is a fast-setting 1:1 epoxy with a short pot life (3–4 min) (1:1 volume mix, 3–4 minutes pot life @ 23 °C). Permabond ET515 is a universal 1:1 highly flexible epoxy (1:1, 10–20 min pot life) — highly flexible, suitable for carbon fiber.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy range, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET500 (Fast-setting epoxy 1:1 — short pot life (3–4 min)); Permabond ET515 (Universal 1:1 highly flexible); Permabond ET514 (Standard 1:1 high strength); Permabond ET536 (Standard 1:1). For aerospace applications, see ET515 (Aircraft Seat Trays); for food applications, see ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, see ET5441 (UL94-V0).
