Permabond ET5424 is a 2K epoxy in grey paste form — vertically applicable with high strength on metal.

The grey paste consistency distinguishes ET5424 from liquid 2K epoxies — the adhesive remains precisely in place and does not drip from vertical bonding surfaces.

APPLICATION PROFILE

Structural adhesive in grey paste form — its thixotropic consistency allows for vertical bonding without dripping. 20–25 N/mm² steel shear strength for industrial applications.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Lightly sand aluminum and copper to remove oxide layers.
2
Mix components A + B
For dual cartridges: Attach the mixing nozzle and press evenly (mixing ratio). For larger containers: Weigh out the resin and hardener in the correct ratio and mix thoroughly until no streaks are visible. Avoid air bubbles.
3
Apply adhesive + join components
Apply the mixed adhesive to a bonding surface within the pot life (—). Join the components with sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive is distributed over the entire bonding surface.
4
Fix components in place during curing
Use a clamping device or vise to prevent the components from moving during curing. Wait for handling strength and functional strength to be determined according to the TDS (Technical Data Sheet).
5
Full curing at room temperature
Final strength is typically reached after 24 hours at 23 °C. Increasing the temperature by 8 °C halves the curing time; lower temperatures slow down the process. If required, optional post-curing at 60–80 °C for maximum strength.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond ET5424

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Structural adhesive in grey paste form — 20–25 N/mm² steel, vertically applicable. The 2-component epoxy is mixed in a — ratio and offers a pot life of —.

Mix both components in the correct ratio — for dual cartridges with a mixing nozzle, weigh precisely for larger containers. Apply within the pot life (—) and join components. Full curing typically occurs after — at room temperature.

The pot life of Permabond ET5424 is typically — at 23 °C. Higher temperatures shorten, lower temperatures lengthen the pot life. Mixing quantities above approximately 100 g may gel more quickly due to an exothermic reaction.

Permabond ET5424 bonds reliably to: Steel: 20–25 N/mm². For thermoplastic substrates, test compatibility before series production.

Permabond ET5424 does not have specific industry-related approvals such as EU 10/2011 (food), UL94 (fire protection), or Boeing/Airbus (aerospace). For general industrial applications, the product is approved according to Permabond standards.

Permabond ET5424 is a structural adhesive, grey paste — high strength on steel (20–25 N/mm²) (— Mix, — pot life). Permabond ET514 is a standard 1:1 (1:1, 30–50 min pot life) — liquid, higher strength.

From the Permabond 2K epoxy range, select according to application, mixing ratio, and strength requirements: Permabond ET5424 (structural adhesive, gray paste – high strength on steel (20–25 N/m)); Permabond ET514 (standard 1:1); Permabond ET5441 (thermally conductive); Permabond ET5428 (black, high strength). For aerospace applications, see ET515 (aircraft seat trays); for food applications, see ET5162 (EU 10/2011 + FDA); for thermal conductivity/fire protection, see ET5441 (UL94-V0).
