Anaerobic thread sealant gel, medium strength, removable

PERMABOND MH052 is a high-viscosity anaerobic sealant for pipe and fitting threads. It is approved for gas seals up to 26 bar and for use with gaseous oxygen up to 10 bar at a maximum temperature of 60 °C, offering good chemical resistance in continuous contact. The product cures faster on copper and copper alloys, and more slowly on oxidized or passivated surfaces, as well as on zinc.

Permabond MH052 is a premium multi-approval anaerobic solvent — unique BAM oxygen approval combined with DVGW gas, KTW + WRAS drinking water approval, all in one product for the most demanding industrial and utility engineering applications with threads up to M56.

In the Permabond Anaerobic portfolio, MH052 is the product with the most parallel approvals — the rare BAM (Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing) approval for oxygen service is unique in the Anaerobic range and qualifies MH052 for high-pressure oxygen systems, welding technology and breathing air supply.

The approval list also includes DVGW (natural gas supply), KTW-BWGL (German Drinking Water Ordinance), and WRAS (British Drinking Water Approval). The thixotropic yellow paste consistency is non-drip and fills gaps up to 0.5 mm. With a breakaway torque of 20 N·m, MH052 falls into the medium-strength range—resistant to vibration and removable with standard tools. Its range up to M56 covers even large industrial threads.

Processing

Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with Permabond Cleaner A or a solvent (acetone, isopropanol). Rough surfaces (~25 µm) result in higher bond strength than polished ones.

Apply adhesive
Apply Permabond MH052 directly from the bottle — for through holes, apply a stripe along the thread length; for blind holes, apply a few drops to the bottom. Do not touch the nozzle to metal surfaces (this will cause premature hardening in the bottle).

Joining components
Insert the screws and tighten to the desired torque. For shaft-hub fits, assemble the components before the adhesive begins to cure.

Allow to cure
Anaerobic curing begins in the absence of air and upon contact with metal. Handling strength is typically achieved after 15 minutes, functional strength after 1 hour, and full strength after 24 hours at 23 °C.

Accelerate curing (optional)
On inactive surfaces (stainless steel, zinc, aluminum) or at low temperatures, Permabond A905 activator can be used — apply to one bonding surface, allow to flash off, then apply adhesive to the other side.

Not suitable for / Important notes
Not for use with oxygen or pure steam. For inactive surfaces, use A905 activator. Disassemble with tools; if necessary, apply gentle heating.
Storage
Store at 5 to 25 °C. Anaerobic adhesives lose their reactivity upon contact with metal — do not touch the tip of the bottle to metal surfaces, and do not pour adhesive back into the bottle.

Anaerobic adhesives cure in the absence of air and in contact with metal — ideal for tight tolerance metallic bonds.

Anaerobic adhesives like Permabond MH052 remain liquid in the bottle (due to contact with air and oxygen) and only begin to harden after bonding under anaerobic conditions and metal-to-metal contact. Permabond A130 is a Threadlocker WRAS (1,800 mPa·s, 0.12 mm, 12 N·m breakaway torque) — low viscosity, KTW + WRAS. Both belong to the anaerobic Permabond A series.

The choice depends on the application: Permabond MH052 (Premium threadlocker & thread sealant — BAM Oxygen + DVGW Gas + KTW + WRAS + NSF); Permabond A130 (Threadlocker WRAS); Permabond HH131 (High strength, high temperature); Permabond A129 (Pipe Sealant Gel).
