Permabond 4C40 is a high-viscosity, medical-device-grade cyanoacrylate for large gap filling — faster set times and improved gap filling capacity vs. conventional cyanoacrylates, also for difficult-to-bond polyacetals.

Permabond cyanoacrylate instant adhesives in medical device grade — biocompatible (ISO 10993), solvent-free, cross-link in seconds through surface moisture between the components. 4C40 is tailored to specific applications — the most important properties and areas of use are listed below.

Large gap filling + polyacetal

Permabond 4C40 is a medium-high viscosity, medical-grade variant — faster than conventional cyanoacrylates, with improved gap-filling properties. Excellent on difficult-to-bond polyacetals (POM).

processing

1
clean substrate
Degrease bonding surfaces with Permabond Cleaner A or acetone/isopropanol — a clean surface is critical for medical device bonding.
2
Polyolefin primer (if required)
For PP, PE, PTFE or silicone: Brush on Permabond POP Primer, let it dry briefly — otherwise no CA adhesion is possible.
3
CSA activator (if required)
For porous or difficult substrates: Spray on CSA aerosol, allow to evaporate — accelerates CA curing.
4
Apply cyanoacrylate sparingly
Apply a drop or thin bead to an adhesive surface — not on both sides, otherwise the reaction will be too rapid.
5
Joining + Pressing
Join components immediately and correctly aligned, press with defined pressure — adhesive spreads into a thin film.
6
Curing
Handling strength after seconds to minutes depending on the substrate. Final strength after 24 hours. Medical device compliance after full crosslinking.

Frequently asked questions about 4C40

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 4C40: High-viscosity, medical-device-grade cyanoacrylate for large gap filling — faster set times and improved gap filling capacity compared to conventional cyanoacrylates, also suitable for difficult-to-bond polyacetals. Main applications: Medical devices with POM components, large gap bonding, vertical applications.

Medical-device-grade cyanoacrylates meet enhanced purity standards for medical applications—typically ISO 10993 tests (biocompatibility, cytotoxicity). They have the same instant curing chemistry as standard CAs (crosslinking by surface moisture), but with controlled purity of ingredients for use in medical devices with patient contact or in pharmaceutical products.

Store in the unopened original container in a dry, cool place — Permabond adhesives typically between +5 and +25 °C, see TDS for exact values. Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use. Observe the expiry date on the packaging. Store cyanoacrylates in a cool place (ideally refrigerated) for maximum shelf life.

The comparison table above lists related Permabond products with different properties—viscosity, mixing ratio, special certification. If you are unsure which product is best, we would be happy to advise you—contact SILITECH with your specific application (substrate pairing, load, curing conditions).
