Permabond 735 is the black pigmented variant of a toughened ethyl cyanoacrylate adhesive — developed for bonds that must withstand impact and peel stress and remain visually unobtrusive on dark surfaces.

With a viscosity of 100–200 mPa·s, 735 is medium-viscosity and fills gaps up to 0.15 mm. Its black pigmentation makes it the first choice for visible adhesive joints on dark substrates—plastic housings, rubber components, or metal with a dark powder coating.

The toughened chemistry delivers the same impact and peel values as 731 Clear (5–10 kJ/m² impact resistance, 40–60 N/25 mm peel resistance) and achieves a shear strength of 24–30 N/mm² on steel. On ABS, PVC, and polycarbonate, the fracture test results in substrate failure.

SPECIAL FEATURE

Black pigmented and toughened — the only dark-colored variant of the toughened Permabond range. Ideal for visible adhesive joints on black or dark substrates, without compromising impact and peel strength.

What distinguishes Permabond 735

Black for dark surfaces
Pigmented adhesive seams remain visually inconspicuous on black or dark substrates.
Toughened
Impact and peel resistant — peel resistance 40–60 N/25 mm, impact resistance 5–10 kJ/m².
Highest steel strength
24–30 N/mm² shear strength on blasted steel.
Substrate failure in ABS, PVC, PC
The bond is stronger than the plastic — when it breaks, the component tears.
Longer curing time
30–50 seconds on steel allows for precise alignment before fixing.
Shake before use
Pigmented formula — shake the bottle briefly before application.

What is Permabond 735 used for?

Visible adhesive seams on dark surfaces
Black plastic housings, dark powder-coated components, rubber components.
Bonds subjected to shock and vibration
Mechanical and vehicle engineering, dynamically loaded components.
Adhesive bonds subject to peel stress
Seals, profiles and thin-walled components subject to lateral loads.
High-strength steel bonding
Shear strength up to 30 N/mm² — top value in the Permabond standard CA series.
General industrial assembly
When longer correction times and aesthetic requirements come together.

processing

1
Clean surfaces
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of grease. Degrease with acetone or isopropanol. Lightly sand aluminum, copper, and their alloys to remove the oxide layer.
2
Use adhesive sparingly
Apply Permabond 735 only drop by drop to a bonding surface — the thin layer is crucial for rapid curing.
3
assembling components
Quickly and correctly align the parts. Apply enough pressure so that the adhesive spreads into a thin film.
4
Secure until firmly in place
Do not disturb or realign until handling strength is reached (typically a few seconds to one minute, depending on the substrate). Final strength is reached after 24 hours.
5
Remove adhesive residue
Excess adhesive can be removed with Permabond CA Solvent 2, nitromethane or acetone.

Important instructions

Not suitable for / Important notes
Shake the bottle briefly before use to distribute the pigment evenly. For porous or difficult surfaces, Permabond CSA Activator is recommended. Permabond POP Primer is mandatory before bonding PP, PE, PTFE, or silicone.
storage
Store refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening – this prevents condensation and protects the shelf life.

Frequently asked questions about Permabond 735

Practical application and design questions — answered by SILITECH.

Permabond 735 is a tough, elastic ethyl cyanoacrylate superglue with a viscosity of 100–200 mPa·s and a maximum gap filling capacity of 0.15 mm. This tough, elastic black cyanoacrylate adhesive is impact-resistant and inconspicuous on dark surfaces.

Permabond 735 reliably bonds steel (24–30 N/mm²), aluminum (13–15 N/mm²), ABS (>6 N/mm² (substrate failure)), PVC (>6 N/mm² (substrate failure)), polycarbonate (>5 N/mm² (substrate failure)), as well as Buna-N rubber and similar elastomers. For polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is required.

Black pigmented and toughened — the only dark-colored variant of the toughened Permabond range. Ideal for visible adhesive joints on black or dark substrates, without compromising impact and peel strength.

Permabond 735 reaches handling strength on steel in 30–50 seconds. Other typical curing times: 35–50 seconds (aluminum), 10–15 seconds (Buna N), 5–10 seconds (phenol). The final strength of 24–30 N/mm² (steel) is reached after 24 hours. Temperature, humidity, and substrate affect the curing rate.

Permabond 735 offers a viscosity of 100–200 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.15 mm, and a shear strength of 24–30 N/mm² on steel. Permabond 731 Clear has a viscosity of 150 mPa·s, a gap filling capacity of 0.15 mm, and a shear strength of 24–30 N/mm² on steel (colorless standard version). Both utilize an ethyl cyanoacrylate (toughened) base (or a related cyanoacrylate variant).

Permabond 735 should be stored unopened refrigerated at 2 to 7 °C and is stable until the printed expiration date. Allow the bottle to warm to room temperature before opening—this prevents condensation inside, which would reduce its shelf life. Opened bottles remain functional for several months if stored correctly, although the curing rate may decrease over time. We recommend a test bond to check reactivity before critical production applications.

From the Permabond cyanoacrylate range, select according to viscosity and special properties: Permabond 735 (100–200 mPa·s, 0.15 mm gap width, pigmented); Permabond 731 Clear (150 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, colorless standard version); Permabond 737MM (2,000–4,000 mPa·s, 0.5 mm, black paste, 0.5 mm gap); Permabond 792 (60–125 mPa·s, 0.15 mm, standard colorless). For polypropylene, polyethylene, PTFE, and silicone, pretreatment with Permabond Polyolefin Primer (POP) is always required.
