Electrical potting resins. Encapsulation and insulation of electronic assemblies

Depending on the system, electrical potting resins protect electronic assemblies from moisture, vibration, chemicals, and thermal stress. They offer high electrical insulation (dielectric strength exceeding 15 kV/mm, product-specific according to the datasheet) and are available in various thermal conductivities.

Material types

Epoxy potting: high mechanical strength and good chemical resistance. Silicone potting: flexible and repairable, suitable for assemblies subjected to temperature fluctuations. PU potting: good elasticity with moderate temperature resistance.

What matters when making your selection

Operating temperature and temperature fluctuations, heat dissipation, shrinkage and mechanical stresses on sensitive components, viscosity and flow behavior during potting, curing, and process time. Electrical characteristics are product-specific and based on the data sheet; for series applications, we recommend a potting test on the original component.
