RTV-2 silicones

RTV-2 silicones. Two-component silicones for mold making, medical technology and industry

RTV-2 silicones (room temperature vulcanizing, two-component) consist of a base component and a hardener, which vulcanize at room temperature after mixing to form a permanently elastic silicone elastomer. They are the standard material for mold making, casting, prototyping , and industrial potting. Selection is based on Shore hardness, viscosity, tensile strength, elongation, pot life, and curing time.

Addition crosslinking or condensation crosslinking

Addition-curing silicones (platinum-catalyzed) offer high dimensional stability and low shrinkage (less than 0.1% according to the manufacturer's documentation). Depending on the product, applications involving skin or food contact are possible; the manufacturer's product-specific documentation is decisive. Typical applications include precision impressions, medical devices, and the food industry. Typical products include Bluesil RTV 141, RTV 3428, RTV 3450, and the SILISIL MF series.

Condensation-curing silicones are more cost-effective and easier to process. They are suitable for large molds, construction applications, and castings without strict dimensional accuracy requirements. Typical products include Bluesil RTV 3221, RTV 3325, and the SILISIL PC series.

SILISIL. Mold-making silicones of the SILITECH private label

The SILISIL comprises over 40 mold-making silicones in six series: MF (mold making, addition-curing), PC (condensation-curing), PP (platinum, food-grade types according to documentation), MD (medical/podiatric), PRO (professional casting), and RP (rapid prototyping). Hardnesses range from Shore 00-10 to Shore A 70.

Elkem Bluesil and Silbione are in the product range

SILITECH offers a wide range of RTV-2 products from Elkem Bluesil: from low-viscosity casting silicones (RTV 3428, viscosity 12,000 mPa·s according to the data sheet) and self-leveling potting compounds to high-viscosity putty silicones. For medical applications, the Silbioneseries (RTV 4411, 4420) is available; suitability and documentation are available upon request for specific products.

Areas of application

RTV-2 silicones are used in architectural model making, prosthetics and podiatry, potting of electronic assemblies, aerospace, and tool and mold making. Temperature resistance ranges from -60 °C to +250 °C, depending on the type (see technical data sheet).

Standard products are generally available for immediate delivery from our Gümligen warehouse. Describe the object to be molded, the quantity, and the casting material: We will recommend suitable types, check alternatives, and provide the data sheets. Samples and special packaging are available upon request.
